Jonathan Hui
Senior Associate
Jonathan’s field of practice is primarily in dispute resolution. He specialises mainly in commercial litigation and has experience across various fields, including commercial disputes, shareholder and boardroom disputes, and matrimonial disputes. His experience has seen him appear at the highest levels of the Singapore Courts and he regularly acts for clients in High Court cases.
Jonathan’s notable previous cases include acting for a well-known Asian multi-national conglomerate in a dispute involving about S$500 million over a sale of a commercial building and business, acting for a regional wealth fund in an international arbitration concerning a complex debt-equity swap transaction of a company worth in excess of an estimated S$400 million, and various multi-party building defects claims.
Jonathan has experience both in trial and appellate advocacy as he has argued as lead counsel in trials and in appeals to High Court Judges in Chambers. He also has experience in applying for injunctions in the Singapore Courts and emergency relief in international arbitration. In particular, he recently successfully argued and obtained an urgent injunction in the High Court within a 27-hour turnaround time in a multi-million dollar dispute. Jonathan has also had experience in coordinating cross-border litigation with law firms from other jurisdictions on behalf of clients.
When dealing with any dispute, Jonathan’s personal belief is that his role is to help his clients achieve outcomes that they set out to achieve, be it through negotiations, mediation, or litigation. To that effect, he prioritises delivering cost-effective strategic solutions that would achieve those outcomes. His clients have previously described him as “having a unique skill set of being able to ignore the clutter and focus on the core issue” and “his quick thinking on his feet helped us win a few courtroom battles”.
